MEIRA AMSTER

Meira Amster (also known as Melissa (Fuhrman) Amster) received her JD from Southwestern University School of Law in 2001.  She received a BA with Honors in Political Science and with a minor in History from the University of California, Riverside in 1997.

While at Southwestern University she was on the deans lists, served as Class Representative to the Student Body Association, was Secretary of the Student Body Association, and was awarded a Public Interest Scholarship.

While at University of California Riverside she received the award of Political Science Student of the Year in 1997 and was on the dean's list multiple times.  She served as General of the Model United Nations, as Senator to the Student Body for two years, President of the Political Science Honor Society, and Representative to the Resident Halls Association.

Meira's law career has focused on in many areas of civil litigation.  She joined the Law Offices of Eugene S. Alkana in June 2001.  While there she garnered diverse legal experience, including business litigation, bankruptcy, workers compensation, federal litigation, business contracts, non-profit work, employment law, probate, and estate planning. This broad background has served her well in the multifaceted area of estate planning. 

Prior to joining the Law Offices of Eugene S. Alkana, Meira worked in firms specializing in bankruptcy, employment, and construction litigation.

Meira also served as a law clerk in many venues, including with a bankruptcy judge, in employment, insurance defense, and civil litigation law firms, and with the House Sub-Committee on Government Management and Technology in Washington D.C.

Meira is a member of the State Bar of California Trust and Estates Section and the Trust and Estates Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

Meira is married to Ze'ev Amster, a teacher, and together they have three small (and beautiful) children.  The Amsters are active members of the Aish HaTorah community located in Los Angeles.

Meira is very excited to practice in the area of Estate Planning.  She believes that it is imperative that each person (and not the government) plan his/her estate according to his/her wishes.  Meira particularly urges all people with children to plan their estates.
